I’ve been asking myself this question everyday and have a few thoughts:

First of all, what is Ikigai? This is a Japanese concept that translates roughly to “Life’s Purpose” — It’s the action at the intersection of what you are good at, what you love doing, what the world needs, and what can provide for you.

This concept is a motif at “Blue Zones’ in the world where people consistently live over 100 and the standard of living & happiness levels are at record highs.

So how can we use the #metaverse, #gaming, #web3 and #blockchain to help more people discover this in their lives?

First of all, community is so important in discovering your Ikigai — input, feedback and support from peers of different background will push you closer and closer to discovering this for yourself. It’s too easy to get caught in an echo chamber on your own.

The NFT community at large has shown us what the power of online communities can accomplish, especially those focused on co-creatorship. There have been countless real life meetups, projects are supporting creators and artists in their communities, NFT IP is helping people launch businesses, and the list goes on.

So, how else can we help people find their Ikigai through creative technology and community?
Promoting exploration and discovery as a mindset. These skills are necessary to finding purpose — the ability to go bravely into the unknown.

Typically, games and metaverse worlds are built around this concept. They are designed to make you feel like a pioneer in a new world.

The only problem is many of these virtual worlds have you pioneering the wrong things — and have no positive effect on the person’s real life.

So the question is, how can we teach people to be a pioneer of their own lives, of solving real world problems, of helping other people? How can we deliver epic win states and feelings of belonging that transcend the digital realm and last with them in the real world?

I think the most impactful games, NFT projects, and metaverse worlds will tug on these heart strings. They will invoke a feeling of purpose. They will create real world impact.
